Why a 3 carat diamond ring is so costly...

You clearly like your diamonds on the large side!! A 3 carat diamond ring is big and in diamond terms, most of the time big equates expensive. This isn’t always the case though. I will give you a few pointers on how to go big without taking out a second mortgage.

Let’s look at the mechanics of getting a one piece round 3 carat diamond.
You’ll first start with a 10 carat rough diamond which when cut and polished will give you a 3 carat and a 2 carat diamond i.e. a total of 5 carats. This is because you loose about 50% of any rough diamond you cut. This is rather harsh as you will have paid for the whole 10 carat rough diamond & you’ll pay quite a bit for it too.
This is one of the reasons why diamonds are generally expensive.
Add to that the fact that facet quality or cuttable 10 carat rough diamonds are rare; most rough diamonds range between 0.5 carats 3 carat and you’ll appreciate the premium prices.
There are the normal parameters including the diamond cut , clarity and color which determine the overall price but a single stone 3 carat diamond ring will set you back around $10,000. That’s a lot of zeros!!
Okay now that you’ve picked your jaw off the table, let me put a smile on your face.Happy 8

You were probably wondering why I kept referring to “a one piece” or “single stone” diamond. This is because there is more than one way to get a 3 carat diamond.

•You can get a pave diamond ring where you can have 50 to 100 pieces of melee or very small diamonds all over the ring which in total will add up to 3 carats. The cost of this ring will be way cheaper than getting a one piece ring.

•You can also opt for a channel set ring with pointers e.g. 0.25 carat diamonds. 12 of them will equal 3 carats and you’ll have a 3 carat ring. The cost of such a ring could be a bit more expensive than a pave diamond ring but definitely way cheaper than a 3 carat ring.

•Another option is to opt for stone diamond rings. You can get a 2 carat centre stone with 0.5 side stones which will also add up to 3 carats or go for solitaire diamond rings where you can have a one carat centre diamond with accent stones.
All the above variations will save you money and enable you to own a 3 carat diamond ring.
The other option is to buy simulated diamond rings simulated diamond rings where the diamonds could be moissanite, cubic zirconium or Sikorsky crystal. You get the bank (big diamond) without the bang (getting your credit card maxed out).
So there you have it. There is absolutely no reason not to own a 3 carat ring!!
