The Sophistication of Emerald cut diamond rings

Emerald cut diamond rings are not your garden variety ring. The Emerald cut is quite unique as it was originally developed for cutting emeralds.....those green luscious gems that ooze opulence!!

Emeralds have a hardness of 7.5 - 8 on the Mohs scale. It is normally quite included with many fluid inclusions found in the rough crystals which make them very brittle.
These multiphase inclusions are like fingerprints and can reveal the geographic location of the emeralds origin.
They tend to weaken the structure of the gem and make it susceptible to cracks and thus breakages making it a difficult stone to cut.

This is why top quality flawless Emeralds go for very high prices.

The Emerald cut with its cropped corners and stepped rectangular shape was developed to help deal with this problem.
This cut proved to be quite popular and was found to work well with other stones even diamond.

When purchasing emerald cut diamond rings, do try to ensure that the stone is of high quality due to the nature of the cut which is quite open.
Inclusions, bad cutting/faceting and poor color are easily seen with the naked eye.

The emerald cut is best set in a four prong setting to maximize the light going in to the stone. The emerald cut with its long lines tends to have quite dramatic flashes of "fire" across the diamond but much less than in a brilliant cut.

Round brilliants are traditional diamond cuts, emerald cuts are not. This makes them much cheaper in comparison saving you money.
This quirk well exploited can also enable you to buy a larger and cleaner stone if you opt for an emerald cut.
The good news is, emerald cut diamonds are not as "traditional" as the round brilliant or as trendy as the princess cut -- making their pricing extremely economical when compared to the more common cuts.
